How To Make Your East Facing Residence A Vastu Compliant One

If you have recently come to be in possession of an east facing property, congratulations! East is considered as the most auspicious direction after North, and hence is preferred by a great many people. And if you are spiritually inclined, and wondering how to enhance the positivity in and around your house, congratulations yet again, for you have found the right article to lead your way.

Before beginning any discussion on the arrangement of houses according to the principles of vastu, we must understand what Vastu Shastra is and what it deals with. Broadly speaking, Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science that studies architecture and devises forms of spatial organization with a view to integrate the human made structures with the natural environment. According to this line of thought, positive energies are in abundance only when man and nature are in harmony, and this brings about a multitude of benefits in a person’s life. In this, Vastu Shastra may be said to be the Indian equivalent of Feng Shui.

The principles of vastu have been constructed on various spiritual as well as scientific considerations. For instance, an east facing house is considered auspicious because the sun, a symbol of light and prosperity, rises in the east, bringing with itself warmth and positive vibrations. Houses with their faces towards the east are therefore designed to harness a maximum of solar energy. It is a popularly conceived notion that any east facing house will be auspicious, which, unfortunately, is not true. The arrangement of rooms inside the house, the positioning of the entrance – all these factors assume as much importance in determining its propitiousness as the direction which it is facing.

It is advisable to keep the east section of a house as much open as possible, so as to allow sunlight to step in. You do not want to have big trees in front of an east facing house for they will obstruct the light. Also, avoid having clutter, dustbins or toilets anywhere in the north and north east section of the house.

The entrance of a house is of supreme importance in Vastu Shastra. In east facing houses, it is favorable to place the main door anywhere from the centre of the eastern wall to the north eastern part. The north east is ideally suited for prayer rooms and living rooms as the sun happens to be in this position during early morning. Having an underground water reservoir in this location is also good for your home.

While constructing an east facing house it should be kept in mind that the eastern part is not to be at an elevated position. Usually, a house that slopes from South to North is considered auspicious, but in some cases a South West – North East slope is also acceptable. It would also be good to have the northern and eastern walls slightly shorter than the southern and western ones. The best location for a master bedroom or a guest room would be the North West. Kitchens and staircases can be constructed either in the South East or in the North West.

By arranging your east facing residence in the above mentioned way, you are making it vastu compliant and consequently allowing a bundle of positive energies to embrace your life. Apart from these, people are also known to use yantras which are objects considered powerful enough to avert misfortune. At the end of the day, everyone deserves their bit of happiness, so why not?
